OverviewHong Yan is a professor at the Fashion Design and Engineering Department, Soochow University and also the executive director of the Jiangsu Provincial University Joint Laboratory for International Cooperation in Sustainable Textile Materials and Engineering. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA). He was introduced to Soochow University through the China Postdoctoral International Exchange Program in 2018. In 2021, he was also selected as a Young Talent awarded by China Association for Science and Technology. He is currently a member of the China Technology Entrepreneurship Association Manufacturing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Working Committee, China Fashion Technology Innovation Alliance, and China Fashion and Textile Artificial Intelligence Alliance. He is serving as the editorial board member of Industria Textile and Journal of Textiles, and the guest editor of Sustainability. He is also the EMBA tutor of Newton Business School. In 2018, he obtained triple-doctoral degrees in Automation and Production from the University of Lille (France), Industry Engineering from the Technical University of Iasi (Romania), and Fashion Design and Engineering from Soochow University (China) from the Erasmus Munds Joint Doctoral Program in Sustainable Management and Design of Textiles. He realized his MA degree in Fashion and Textile Design from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2014. His BENG degree is in Fashion Design and Engineering, obtained from Soochow University. He once worked as a researcher and postdoctoral fellow at GEMTex, the French Laboratory of Textile Engineering. His main research interests are Intelligent Industrial (Fashion) Design and Engineering, and Sustainable Design and Management for Fashion. He has presided over more than ten scientific research projects such as the EU Horizon 2020 plan and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than ten industrial projects. He has published more than 100 papers. The published more than 30 SCI papers with the first/corresponding author. Currently, he is a reviewer for more than ten international journals such as Knowledge-based Systems (IF:8.038) and Artificial Intelligence Review (IF:8.139). As a major expert, invited by the China Fashion Association, he participated in the writing of the White Paper on Scientific and Technological Innovation in China's Apparel Industry. Collaborated with Shanghai Fashion Week, he is also one of the major authors of the Report on Research on China's Sustainable Fashion Consumers. His research results have won the Gold Award of the European Exhibition of Creativity and Innovation and the Gold Award of INVENTICA 2016 awarded by the Nationa Institute of Inventics, Romania, and the Best Paper Award of FLINS2016. In terms of industrial practice and cooperation, he translates his expertise into scalable solutions through industrial and governmental collaborations. In 2014, he was invited to release his works at Hong Kong Fashion Week. In 2017, he was selected for the French Maisons de Mode Designer Incubation Program. For three consecutive years, he was fully funded by the French government to release his works during Paris Fashion Week. His works were also exhibited in 48H Maisons de Mode in France, Riga Fashion Week in Latvia, Nanjing Cheongsam Museum, FashionTech Day in France, etc. He is a consultant for several international brands, including Carlin (France), Kering Group (France), the Chanel Group (France), the LECTRA (France), Martin Grant (France), and Enwis (China). Design works have been reported by a number of international fashion magazines such as 《Harper's Bazaar》 and 《L’OFFICIEL》.
