Ningyang Chen received her BA in English from Xi'an International Studies University, Shaanxi, and then went to Fudan University, Shanghai, to pursue graduate studies.

Ningyang Chen is a lecturer of English language and literature at the School of Foreign Languages, Soochow University, Jiangsu, China, where she conducts research and teaches English major undergraduates. She received her BA in English from Xi’an International Studies University, Shaanxi, and then went to Fudan University, Shanghai, to pursue graduate studies. She has broad academic interests and is particularly interested in humanistic approaches to teaching and researching languages. She is now working on projects investigating academic writing and publishing experiences of Chinese social sciences and humanities scholars as well as the multilingual and multicultural development among people working and studying in China. Her essay “The story of a loner learner: Reconsidering authenticity and authentic engagement in second language learning” was awarded the runner-up Christopher Brumfit Essay Prize 2021. Her recent publications have appeared in Language and Semiotic Studies, English Today, and Bilingual Research Journal.
